Volleyball is a highly active and team-building sport. It’s a common choice of student-athletes, especially those who want to build their future careers around it. Did you know that you could play volleyball as a national or state-level player in school or college, and then go on to play the game professionally? Therefore, playing volleyball in college can be an excellent choice, but you should mind that there are also some potential downsides to that decision. Here are a few pros and cons of playing volleyball in college.

The Pros of Playing College Volleyball

Enhances social and leadership skills

Social skills are something that a lot of young people struggle with. Whenever I needed to do my research paper professionally in college, I had a tough time reaching out to strangers to ask them for help. If I played volleyball, I would be better at socializing with people.

Since volleyball is a team sport, it increases your social and communication skills and makes you a better team player. These skills can also impact your everyday life and make future socializing easier for you. Another important advantage of playing this game is that it enhances one’s leadership skills.

Can increase your confidence

Sports, in general, are very good at making people feel confident and comfortable being in the spotlight. Low confidence can stop you from achieving a lot of things in life. Therefore, playing a sport like volleyball that requires you to be naturally confident can do wonders to your self-esteem. This confidence impacts your everyday affairs and work-life and can make you a more successful person.

Improves your lifestyle by making you fit

Being active, especially by playing sports regularly, can make you extremely healthy and fit. It doesn’t only improve your overall physical health, but also makes you mentally calmer and stronger. Regular exercise will keep you on your toes and keep you prepared for anything that you may face.

Teaches you important life lessons

Playing sports can teach young people a lot of important life lessons and skills. It gives you the ability to deal with losses in a healthy way and motivates you to keep trying.

Volleyball also teaches the following life lessons:

  • Teamwork;
  • Perseverance;
  • Healthy competition;
  • Risk-taking;
  • Flexibility; and more.

It also teaches you how to be friendly with people from the opposing team, which is a very useful skill in life.

Can give you a college scholarship

Another great advantage of playing volleyball in college is that it can give you a scholarship and you may not have to end up paying for college. Of course, this means that you’ll have to be one of the best players in the school, but that is doable if you keep your grades up by hiring professionals to write my research paper. This way you will have an excellent academic score and also have enough time to play volleyball.

Cons to Playing Volleyball in College

It is not an easy sport

Like every other professional sport, learning to play volleyball well isn’t an easy task. It takes a lot more time, effort, and patience to get good at. Some players are naturally gifted and can learn the game faster than others, but even then, training and regular exercise are required along with good hand-eye coordination skills and practice.

It is time-consuming

Sometimes, volleyball takes so much time that it can distract you from academics, in which case you may need essay writing help from professional writers. However, there are resources that can help you with it. Find more at letsgradeit.com. Only the most dedicated and organized students can manage both their academics and a chosen sport, so you should be prepared for such a challenge.

May cause injuries

Whether you play volleyball at college or on a professional team, you’re bound to face some injuries while playing the game. Some of these injuries can be minor, like small scratches and bruises from falls, while others can be more serious. The latter ones may include fractures, sprains, and muscle pulls, and can sometimes take a long time to heal.

Requires a team, you can’t play it alone

A significant downside to volleyball is that you need a team to play with, and you can’t play this sport alone. If you have some free time and are looking to practice, all your friends or teammates should be free at the same time too. Thus, it is a little difficult to schedule matches if you have a full-time career or are pursuing an education.

Final Words

Despite the few disadvantages mentioned above, volleyball is a great game with amazing potential for the naturally talented. If you’re a college student looking to invest some time in a sport that can make you healthier and happier, it is a great option for you. Make sure you have a good team and are careful and consistent while playing.
