The Nebraska women’s basketball team is projected to finish in fifth place in the Big Ten this season in a vote of media released Wednesday.
Iowa tops the poll, followed by Indiana, Ohio State, Maryland and Nebraska.
In a separate coaches’ poll, Nebraska wasn’t in the top 5, with Michigan coming in at the No. 5 spot.
Last season, Nebraska finished sixth in the league standings with an 11-7 record. Nebraska returns four of its five starters from the end of last season with Jaz Shelley, Isabelle Bourne, Allison Weidner and Alexis Markowski. Sam Haiby was also set to be back but will miss the season with a knee injury.
Markowski made the preseason All-Big Ten team for both the coaches and media.
The 2022 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, Markowski averaged team bests of 15.6 points and 8.6 rebounds during Big Ten Conference play while shooting 54% from the field.
