India vs West Indies 2nd T20I match delayed due to logistics issue, revised schedule start at 10 PM IST: Cricket West Indies (CWI) on Monday decided to postpone India vs West Indies 2nd T20I in Warner Park in St Kitts by two hours due to “significant delay in the crucial team luggage” from Trinidad. The INDvsWI 2nd T20I was scheduled to begin at 8:00 PM on August 1st.
Update: New timing to start the match is now 11 PM IST. West Indies opt to bowl first!
Notably, the first T20I was held in Trinidad’s Brian Lara Stadium where the visitors thrashed the host by massive 68 runs to take up the lead of 1-0. The two sides then moved to Basseterre, St Kitts where the second and third T20Is will be played.
CWI has released the revised schedule time for the start of the 2nd T20I. The match will begin at 10 PM IST, which is a 2-hour delay from the original start. The Cricket Board confirmed the development through their official statement.
“Due to circumstances beyond CWI’s control, there have been significant delays in crucial team luggage arriving into St Kitts from Trinidad. As a result, today’s match 2nd T20 Cup match is due to start at 12:30 pm (11:30 am Jamaica/10 pm India). CWI regrets any inconvenience caused to our valued fans, sponsors, broadcast partners, and all other stakeholders,” Cricket West Indies said in their official statement.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that the Cricket West Indies (CWI) is also preparing an alternative schedule for the last two T20Is of the five-match series between India and the West Indies. INDvsWI 4th and 5th T20I are scheduled to be held in Florida, the USA, however, neither of the participating contingents has received its visas.
The cricketers were expected to get their US visas in St. Kitts, but it has been learnt that the players, who haven’t received their travel documents, may have to head back to Trinidad to get the final clearance.
“Having the games in the Caribbean is not unlikely but efforts are being made to resolve the visa issue,” said a source in West Indies cricket on Sunday (July 31). The initial information was that the players would be handed the US travel documents in St Kitts where the teams have arrived. But there’s a chance that the players may have to travel back to Trinidad for the visa documents and from there to the US if they obtain the all-clear.”
The President of CWI, Ricky Skerritt said that they are continuously working to get the outstanding visas of the players, but at the same time exploring other options as well.
