The figures are based upon data from 1,500 golf clubs and cover the period April/June when BRS Golf facilitated 7.05m rounds, a 73% increase from 2019

Quarterly report highlights:

  • Golf participation among club members in the UK and Ireland remained strong in Q2 with 7.05 million rounds facilitated through BRS Golf.
  • Although Q2 member rounds decreased 19% YOY compared with 2021, they have increased 73% from 2019
  • The reopening of the country in July 2021 has meant golf now needs to compete for members’ attention. The fact that member rounds are still up significantly on 2019 shows that clubs have engaged and retained new members well.
  • Q2 breakdown by country
  • Scotland: 1.2 million member rounds (+38% vs 2019)
  • England: 3.48 million member rounds (+83% vs 2019)
  • Wales: 367k member rounds (+153% vs 2019)
  • Ireland: 1.48 million member rounds (+61% vs 2019)
  • Northern Ireland: 519k member rounds (+103% vs 2019)
  • Demographics: 27.4% female members (140K in 2018, 210K in 2022). 28.4% of members are now in the 18-35 age bracket – the largest and fastest growing member segment.
  • Shifting playing day patterns. 2022 – 56% weekday play. 2020 – 63% weekday play. 2019 – 53% weekday play. As golfers return to their pre-pandemic schedules, they have shifted away from weekday play and back to weekends. Week day play is still up on 2019, but down on 2020 which will always be an outlier year with so many working from home or on furlough
  • BRS Golf’s data represents 1500 golf clubs and more than 670,000 members across the UK and Ireland
